In this period the Cohesion Fund has a greater participation in the execution of all the Structural Funds policies and actions, substituting the per-project approach for per-programme financing, with a view to more simplified management. The Cohesion Fund resources are distributed on three axes: Axis 1-Transport TEN-T. Axis 2- Environment and Sustainable Development, and Axis 5- Technical Assistance.
The choice of projects to be co-financed in the framework of the national programme, while respecting the sector objectives of the Fund, corresponds to the member State. This measure greatly reduces the number of projects that require the Commission’s approval. The Commission’s agreement is requested in the case of very large-scale projects.
