The MED Programme is a Transnational European Territorial Cooperation Programme.
It is funded by the European Union as an instrument of its regional policy and of its new programming period.
It continues the tradition of the European cooperation programmes (previously called Interreg). It is carried on under the «European Territorial Cooperation» objective for the period 2007-2013. With a budget of over €250 million, the Programme covers the coastal regions of Mediterranean and nine EU countries. The association is enlarged with the participation of the Mediterranean countries that are candidates or potential candidates for entry to the European Union.
