FONDO EUROPEO DE AYUDA A LAS PERSONAS MÁS DESFAVORECIDAS (FEAD)

The Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD) finances EU countries' actions to provide food and/or basic material assistance to the most deprived.

The assistance consists of food, clothing, footwear and other essentials for personal use, such as soap or shampoo.

Material assistance must be accompanied by social inclusion measures, such as guidance and support to lift people out of poverty.

National authorities can also provide non-material assistance to the most disadvantaged people to help them better integrate into society.

In May 2020, the Commission proposed further amendments to the Common Provisions Regulation and the FEAD Regulation, in response to the COVID-19 outbreak and increasing needs.

EU countries can choose, depending on their situation, the type of aid they wish to provide (food, basic materials or a combination of both) and how to obtain and distribute it.

Partner organizations are public bodies or non-governmental organizations selected by national authorities on the basis of objective and transparent criteria, established at national level.
