Who we are

​The National Focal Point (NFP) is responsible for the technical, administrative and financial management of the EEA Grants 2009-2014 in Spain under the terms and provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding.

 The NFP operates out of the General Directorate of European Funds, Ministry of the Finance and Civil Service, and its aim is to manage and coordinate the activities related to the application and implementation of the Financial Mechanism.

Spain has received funding since the EEA Agreement came into force in 1994. For the period 2009-2014, Spain has been allocated 45,9 million euros; equal to the previous five-year period, 2009-2014. Norway provides 95% of the funding, with Iceland and Liechtenstein providing the rest.

A country of beneficiaries

 

 45 million euros, more than 400 funded projects, thousand of direct beneficiaries and a whole country of indirect beneficiaries. This is the balance sheet of the 2009-2014 period of the EEA Grants in Spain.

 Strengthening bilateral relations is one of the main general objectives of the EEA Grants. In Spain, it can be said that the goal has been fully met.

Fund operator for Global Fund for Regional Cooperation

 

 The Financial Mechanism Office – the secretariat of the EEA and Norway Grants – is calling for bids for a Fund Operator to support the management of the EEA and Norway Grants Global Fund for Regional Cooperation.

EEA Grants annual report 2015-2016

 

 The annual report highlights the results achieved with funding from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA and Norway Grants over the last year.

 EEA Grants Spanish Focal Point and the Norwegian Embassy presented the book “20 years of cooperation and solidarity. Spain 1994-2014”.

 EEA Grants Spanish Focal Point and the Norwegian Embassy organize the closing event of the period 2009-2014 including the presentation of the book “20 years of cooperation and solidarity. Spain 1994-2014”.

Mission accomplished

 

 Spain will no longer be in receipt of the EEA Grants, but its imprint will remain. Period 2009-2014 has just finished with more than 400 projects developed in Spain by the Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein funds, but the number of beneficiaries is much higher.

United against corruption

 

 Leading representatives from the legal, political and civil society sphere all over Europe gathered on 20 and 21 October in Prague to discuss issues such as the fight against corruption, money laundering and asset recovery, in an international conference funded by the EEA Grants and organized by Czech Republic Focal Point and the Council of Europe.

The Monitoring Committee endorses the results of the EEA Grants Spain 

 

 The members of the Monitoring Committee responsible for evaluating the EEA Grants implementation in Spain endorsed the 2014 Strategic Report in a meeting last 13th of May.

Small grants for big ideas  

 

 The National Focal Point of the EEA Grants in Spain is organizing the Seminar “Small Grants for big ideas”, aiming at showcasing how these funds from Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein are promoting sustainable development in Spain by funding small projects.

More than 400 projects to reduce disparities and strengthen cooperation  

 

 2015 has started with more than 400 projects approved and financed in Spain by the Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein funds, but beneficiary numbers is much bigger.

 The members of the Monitoring Committee responsible for evaluating the EEA Grants implementation in Spain endorsed the 2013 Strategic Report in a meeting last 30th of September.

Reducing disparities, strengthening cooperation 

 

 160 R&D projects in the field of Energy and Environment, 38 projects to strengthen the NGO sector in its social commitment, 200 grants to study in Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, 80 scientific research projects, 10 million of euros to fight against gender-based violence and the economic dependence behind it, four million to culture… These are only some of the destination of the EEA Grants in Spain.
